Under the supervision of Sylvia Young OBE, our holiday courses are taken by both teachers from our full-time school and also by professionals from the theatre world.
The emphasis of our classes is on vocational development with good training. We aim to build confidence and communication skills. Students do not have to audition to take part and the course is suitable for those with some experience and for those entirely new to theatre. It is also a great opportunity to meet new friends in a very happy environment.
Holiday School offers a number of sessions in varying styles. Our very popular 'Theatre Classes Course' 7-18 years & Musical Theatre Course 10-18 years: Full information can be found in our course information menu and are held at our school in Nutford Place W1.
You can register directly online using our online booking page. Our booking system will inform you if any course is full.
School building opens at 9.30am every day. If students are being collected by Parents/Guardians they MUST be collected each day by 5pm. Please do not bring valuables to school as we cannot take responsibility for loss or damage to personal property.
What to Wear
During your time here we recommend that comfortable clothes and shoes are worn - tracksuit, jazz shoes, trainers etc.
Students may purchase SYTS t-shirts during their week if they wish. However, uniform is NOT compulsory. Students who have ordered SYTS t-shirts uniform can collect during the first day of course.
Lunch & Break Times
Our cafeteria is run independently'. Students can purchase a weekly lunch voucher during online registration or students may bring packed lunches.
During morning and afternoon breaks all students can purchase snacks and drinks.
Please note: due to certain students suffering from nut allergies we ask all visitors not to bring nuts or nut products into the school.
Only students who are aged 16 and over with a permission note from Parent / Guardian may leave the building at lunch time. Permission notes to be given into school office during morning registration.
Our school nurse or first aider is on duty at all times. Please ensure that she is aware of any problem or medication that your child may need.
Parent day usually the last day of the course where parents can visit classes and watch their child. You can visit for the whole day or part day. Just sign in at reception and collect a programme.
Our DVD runs till 4.50pm each day. Students should sign up on arrival each morning if they wish to stay for the ‘dvd club’.
Our staff does their very best to accommodate every child. It is helpful for staff to be aware if a student is dyslexic, for example, so that support can be available in a drama or singing class to read scripts or lyrics. Support would take the form of teacher awareness only. We would not be able to provide an additional member of staff.
Equally, it may be helpful for dance teachers to be aware if a student is dyspraxic as the student may need more time to pick up routines.
The student would need to be able to benefit from the teaching available in the class at the same time as not impeding the learning of other students.
Should you wish to discuss any of these points with us to confirm whether the classes would be suitable for your child please feel free to contact us.
